Oct 31 – put yer records on!

I’ve been listening to some great records these last few weeks; Tinariwen’s Mali desert blues getting an – almost – acoustic treatment with their new record Tassili, and Mike Scott’s new Waterboys record, An Appointment With Mr Yeats ; WB Yeat’s poems set to Mike Scott’s original work, it’s stunning and i advise you to stop what you’re doing immediately and go listen. And Mr Gallagher’s High Flying Birds record has been getting multiple spins as well as has Ron Mcelroy’s – yes it’s FINALLY COMING OUT – debut record “ALl Her Kisses” which is the culmination of a few years’ labour of love, and you’ll all know about it soon enough i’ve no doubt. i think you can tell on first listen if someone’s made a record just for themselves, just ’cause it felt like the right thing to do at the time and no other reason..the music’s just better for it. and that’s that.
So a couple of days to go till the first of three london shows for the new record, looking forward to playing the Troubadour, it’s steeped in history and liquor drinks are free poured. a great night. see you then .

Oct 27. Imminently !!!

Just back from self imposed few weeks exile to tighten up some chords and venture into the deep to look for some new ones. It was a successful expedition, i’ve come back with a few things that are starting to make sense and I’m planning to spend the month of December laying down some tracks and seeing what happens. But that’s all of a month away and there’s so much set to happen before then, my Goodtimes Goodtimes record is finally released in a few weeks, November 14th to be exact!! along with the LP songs there’s a few acoustic cuts of the songs – as they were written basically, with nothing else to sway you either way, just the stories and the chords. that’s it…that’s all i got! And a couple of videos of the recordings as well. I’m happy to get the record underway now, hopefully people like it, maybe they wont. either way. So to celebrate the release I’m going to be playing three very special shows in my adopted hometown starting on the 3rd of November at the troubadour club on old brompton road , this will be a straight up solo show, no funny business, no messing about. It’s one of my favourite places to play in London , the audience is reserved for genuine music lovers which is a welcomed change from a lot of the other dives around town…second night..November 10th at Regent Sounds Studios on Denmark Street, site of the legendary EMI recording studios where the stones, hendrix, stevie wonder and many others recorded and mixed their records their in the sixties (i go crazy for all that stuff, i am after all, first and foremost a music fan..the rest I blag, rather well if I may) and now home to a beautiful guitar boutique, who have very kindly let me do a show their to launch the record. It’s going to be a special night and then all down the 12 bar after for some properly childish behaviour. And last , but BY. NO. MEANS. LEAST….a full band show on November 15th at the Garage in Islington, where I will have playing with me , the thunderous (PFL) rhythm section of Phil Martini & Barnaby John Maddick lending their talents to the proceedings and…the two best guitarists I’ve ever heard, Ivor Sims & Ron McElroy, yes that’s right 3 (guitars!) is the magic number all playing with me. it’s going to be quite the event. I cannot wait. and there’s some more great events – both at home and abroad – lined up after that but more that to follow. Looking forward to catching up with some of you at the London shows coming up. oh yes, and buy the record will you?! cheers.

August 30th. Leeds

Back from Leeds Festival; all in one piece :) Had a great time playing at the jack daniels stage throughout the weekend. I think it was five sets in all that I played from Friday to Sunday, a rainy start to the festival meant the mud kept us company for the rest of it..all great fun though next time i need to be a bit more prepared camping wise..2 am on the first night of the festival when it’s raining and really cold is not the best time to get back to your tent and realise you didnt bring a sleeping bag. ouch. it’s was cold man!!!!

Luckyly for me the hosts at Jack Daniels were amazing hosts and very kind to me and all the other musicians playing so a bit of old number 7 helped to keep me warm for the rest of the festival. I got a chance to road test a few new songs and one in particular called “everyday hurts” .. which is actually alot more positive than it sounds :) went down really well and i’m looking forward to recording it very soon so i can let you all hear it. Got a chance to see some amazing bands as well , The Fanclub whom I

shared the bill , you should go listen to them!! Seasick Steve playing along side John Paul Jones..that was pretty amazing…watching Julian Casablanacas call out for Macchu Picchu..-song of the weekend!- was hilarious just ’cause of how clearly off his rocket he was and Ritzy from the Joy Formidable shouting “come on you fuckers!!” to the crowd was pretty excellent, good on her.

So that was a little round up of my weekend playing at Leeds; was great fun and looking forward to hopefully being there next year as well..but staying in tour bus not a tent :) Special thank you Mr @DBHorrigan for the awesomness. ( Keep on Chopping.)

How is it August already? So the record is getting a proper release in a few months. I’m so excited that it’s finally getting a fighting chance, it’s going to be a busy and fun time ahead, cant wait! The show last sunday at madam jojos was lots of fun; sharing a dressing room with a burlesque dancer is a very good look. More please. .. Oh yes i had this to show you this week, I did an interview with a very cool roots music magazine called Spiral Earth, you can read it by clicking here. July 26th…London show this week..

Truck Festival was great fun and even the weather held out. Good times. I got a chance to road  test a couple of brand new songs as well which went down really well..this week I’m playing with the band at Madam Jojos in London on Sunday..cannot wait for this, it’s been too long since we played a show together so sunday is going to be a really special night..so just busy with that this week .. looking forward to seeing some of you there. You can get your tickets from here .

Continuing my “acoustic sessions” videos, Fortune Teller Song is up next .. I really enjoyed doing this one as I got to play harmonica on it which is how we’d originally done it in the studio but decided to opt for the guitar solo instead on the record….guitar solo is always going to win over anything else..hands down. Here it is..

And this week  Wounded Jukebox and You Sound Great had some nice things to say , have a read :)

Here’s a video blog from the weekend..more of these coming soon .. they’re fun and they keep me entertained. Two rarities.

July 19th Truck!

I’m playing  Truck Festival this weekend..if the rain holds out it should be a good one! Bought myself a very precarious looking “pop up” tent that’s meant to be super easy to set up and put down , but i think the only thing it’s going to be doing is letting the rain in or flying away with the wind. Ah, either way, it’s a festival, good times all round either way. So if you’re headed down there I’m on the Last.fm Stage at half past noon on Sunday..they’ve got me down as Goodtimes Goodtimes..yes this is the last ever gtgt show..speaking of names people seem to be liking the name change which is good news as i’d never have changed it back if they didnt :)

.And here it is, the new site ; http://www.franc-cinelli.com is now up and running for your viewing & listening pleasure. I hope you enjoy it and I’d love to know what you think of it. I’m glad to hear so many of you are enjoying the live acoustic video of Burn I put up a few days ago, there’s a series of about six (i think!) that we recorded about a month ago and i’ll be posting them up one at a time. Now…I have a few shows coming up these next two months, I’m really excited about playing Truckfest in a few weeks and then Leeds Festival at the end of August..i should still have my wellies from Glasto somewhere…by right now, more exciting than all of that to me is the first show I’ll  be playing with my band as Franc Cinelli and not Goodtimes Goodtimes at the end of this month ; we’ll be headlining “The Greatest Show In The Universe” at Madam Jojos in Soho, London on July 31st. It’s going to be an amazing night..not just because of yours truly but there’ll be various other performers..of all types..including some burlesque dancers . Excellent. There are a limited amount of £10 advance tickets available from this link , I really hope you can make it!! Some very exciting news to tell you about…really soon…..oh and please join up to the new facebook page as well. franc

July 5th

Goodtimes Goodtimes is no more. As of today I will be singing and dancing just as plain old me Franc Cinelli. I love Goodtimes Goodtimes but it’s feeling like that battered pair of boots that, after many a road trip, many a gig and many a messy night out are now hanging by a thread and after some hesitation, they’ve got to go. The rain water is coming in.
Fear not though music fans, I’m back and better than ever soon to be blowing fuck out of a venue near you very very soon indeed.
Some exciting news to tell you about soon. Watch this space .
Chin up
Franc
